Home Working in LCS" [WITH] [thesis Offer 2013-2016] Study spectroscopy in situ and operando Porous hybrid solids (MOFs): relationship between adsorption sites and catalytic activity
Infrared spectroscopy and Operando situ study of the relationship between the properties of the adsorption sites of solid organic-inorganic hybrid (MOF) and their catalytic properties to model reactions.
Solid organic-inorganic hybrid type MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks) are nanoporous crystalline solids consist of an assembly of inorganic units (clusters, chains or plans) and organic complexing (phosphonates, carboxylates, sulfonates). The inorganic portion contains divalent metal (Mn2 +, Co2 +, Ni2 +, Cu2 +, Zn2 +) or trivalent (Sc + 3, 3 +, Cr3 +, Fe3 +, Al3 +, Ga3 +, In3 + ...), or the lanthanides, interconnected via type organic groups di-, tri- or tetracarboxylate with a rigid portion including one or more aromatic rings. The resulting structures have tunnels or recesses of various sizes (pore diameter 3-35 Å). The thus generated porous volumes are important, making these materials very attractive for applications in the fields of adsorption and catalysis.
Metal subunits cations can generate Lewis acid sites (unsaturated coordination to the metal cations), Bronsted acids (hydroxyl linked to one or more cations) and reducible metal centers ohio vendors license in the case of iron-based solid or Vanadium. As for the organic part, the possibility of introducing nitrogen ohio vendors license function on the ligand (amino, imino) allows the production of basic sites well localized.
These MOFS and contain adsorption sites, ohio vendors license the nature and the number is a priori perfectly defined. As this is not the case of most solids used in heterogeneous catalysis (particularly because ohio vendors license of the presence of defects and important phenomena surface relaxation), the subject of this thesis is to take advantage of this unique property MOFs to study the qualitative and quantitative relationship between the adsorption properties of these sites and their catalytic properties. In particular, the process will involve the spectroscopic study of the species adsorbed on the solids reaction conditions (operando studies) for catalytic reactions models, with speeds and / or selectivity are reported as specific a priori nature ohio vendors license (acid, basic, acid-base or redox) and / or the number of sites involved ohio vendors license (conversion of alcohols, polymerization of heterocycles, ...). This study will rely in particular on specific experimental approaches in the laboratory, such as adsorption of molecules in situ probes and adapted operando monitoring of the behavior of solids when modulating the number and nature sites (selective poisoning sites current reactions, water adsorption, controlled creation of default ..).
Spectroscopic study of hybrid materials like MOFs in this theme is distinguished by numerous national collaborations (including the Institut Lavoisier in Versailles for the synthesis of materials) and international (since ohio vendors license 2007, two European projects, including 1 pending) which and give the opportunity ohio vendors license to expand its doctoral training in other areas of science and develop and diversify academic and industrial contacts.
The publication of scientific results regularly place in the most prestigious international journals in chemistry ohio vendors license (Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Society Reviews, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemistry of Materials, ...), demonstrating that the encompassing theme this thesis is recognized as at the forefront of current research in this area.
The candidate ohio vendors license should have the equivalent of a Master (obtained ohio vendors license for less than 2 years) strongly oriented in chemistry or physical chemistry with good knowledge in methods of materials characterization and / or catalysis. Knowledge of vibrational spectroscopy and catalytic tests will be appreciated.
The thesis (3 years) will begin in September 2013. The salary will be in accordance with French regulations doctoral salaries (about 1350 Euros net / month, included social insurance)
